Derek M. Rudman
Derek M. Rudman is a founding partner of Rudman & Smith. Mr. Rudman graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. While at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law he was selected as a member of the prestigious Order of the Barristers litigation honorary society and the Rollins Society, becoming the University of Missouri’s first triple tap in its history.
Prior to Rudman & Smith, Mr. Rudman has served in the public sector in a wide variety of roles including trial attorney for the St. Louis Public Defenders Office, head trial attorney for the Youth Advocacy Unit for the St. Louis Public Defenders Office, Prosecuting Attorney for the Village of Uplands Park, Guardian Ad Litem for the County of St. Louis, law clerk for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Office of the Attorney General’s Office Litigation Division, Office of the Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection and Trade Offenses Division, and St. Charles Public Defender’s Office.
Mr. Rudman is admitted to practice in Missouri State Courts, State of Illinois, Missouri Court of Appeals, United States District Court – Eastern District of Missouri, United States District Court – Southern District of Illinois, and United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Mr. Rudman has participated in a wide variety of civic and charitable organizations, including but not limited to, Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children, Chesterfield Drug Abuse Task Force chair, Camp Sabra Board Member, Bar Association of Missouri St. Louis, and Wrestling Coach and State Referee, and has received numerous awards such as the United States Gold Congressional Medal Award.
Mr. Rudman has represented numerous clients in successful settlements, confidential mediations, administrative hearings, trials both in judge-tried and jury-tried cases involving significant awards and judgments. Mr. Rudman has extensive experience in complex multi-part litigation and matters of sensitive nature. He has represented many individuals in high profile media cases in both civil actions and criminal defense of those being charged with offenses, including, but not limited to, murder, sex, robbery, and drug cases.
